Florida Auto Racing News

New Venture updated May 1, 2008. John Tenney Racing has entered in to an agreement with Grand Am driver Jon Miller to coach him in the transition from road racing to stock cars.

"This is what I've always wanted to do." said Tenney, "as I knew my future as a driver is limited at my age. This is something I can do and enjoy for many many years to come."

So far, Miller has been on the track at Orlando Speedworld for a couple of test sessions, and really likes the different feel of the stock cars.

"We will be entering Jon in many oval track series during this season around Florida, and who knows, maybe even some national series racing next year."

John Tenney drives stock cars in several classes of the FASCAR Series in Florida. FASCAR races around the state, but look for our team regularly at Orlando Speedworld (OSW) on Friday nights at 8pm.

Race Reports are added weekly on the John Tenney.com Blog.

The blog will also be used to announce pre-race information, sponsor news, team news and other items of interest.

Winter Series in the Super Stock?

Lee Wagner has offered John Tenney a ride in his championship 74 Super Stock for the OSW Winter Series. "I'm seriously considering it," remarked John, "Why wouldn't I? It's a proven car, a chance for some much needed seat time, and a chance to win a race. It certainly won't be the car's fault!"

This site will have the announcement shortly, if the deal goes thru.

The Future?

From John:
"I've received a lot of questions (in person and via email) about where I am going with this, how much future is there for a 50 year old rookie, business owner, father, family man, etc. Good questions.

The big question is, what is the next step? I certainly do not have goals of driving for a career, although I want to experience as much of the driving business as possible.

I had been testing a Limited Late Model, the next step up from the Sportsman (a Very Limited Late Model). It has a 100 more horsepower and it's about 200 lbs lighter. It is quite a lot more car than a Sportsman. I'm not ready to race it, as a faster, lighter car is not only more dangerous (I have a wife and kids to think about) but more expensive as well (again with the wife and kids!)

My plan for 2008 is to run for the championship and Rookie of the Year in one of the FASCAR classes, racing at OSW on Fridays. This fits my sponsors' plans as well."

Personal History:
Formerly a Software Engineer, Professional Musician, Commercial Airline Pilot and Website Designer (in that order), and currently operating a successful PEO insurance agency (PEO Pros), Mr. Tenney decided to expand his status as a race fan and sponsor to race driver, not only as a hobby, but also as a sports marketing venture.

"It started with a Christmas Present." he says, "My wife gave me a professional racing course at Fast Track, thinking it would be something I'd like to do. Turns out she was right, much to her chagrin."
